About

Hi I’m Nikolas, a writer of fiction and creator in other spheres. I’ve always been making things and thought it was a good time to put some of it on the internet to share with you. I enjoy writing fantastical stories about new and strange worlds filled with characters inspired by this one. I’m also hard at work on a novel that involves a protagonist preoccupied with conundrum of whale song. You can find glimpses and other extracts of my work here and here.

When I’m not writing words on the page, I’m writing code for my day job, or stringing new worlds together for my ever increasing table top gaming obsession, of which you can find some snippets of that endeavor peppered throughout this site. I like to draw things in a small sketchbook and try to document my life wherever possible. The addition of a new portable set of watercolors, purchased in the Colorado mountains as a gift from my loving and talented wife, has opened new realms of creative possibility in this area. You might find some of that work in various places on my website. I also enjoy music in many forms and often can be found at the piano bench.

I currently reside in the middle of North America, near one of the biggest lakes in the world, so big in fact that it once tricked me into thinking at a very young age that it was indeed an ocean, and perhaps was the root cause for my later obsession in life with real oceans, which would later tug at my heart and mind in a way that only Herman Melville might describe. I once lived near the Atlantic ocean, on the western shores of Ireland, and later found myself anchored to the salty shores of the gulf coast on the Florida panhandle. I’ve often traveled great distances to be close to the sea, whether it be the circuitous Mediterranean, the self-styled Coral sea, or the enchanting Pacific.

I dream of one day settling near the waves, hoping to catch glimpses of fins or spouts from my kitchen window, or perhaps something stranger. But until that day arrives, I must dream up the ocean in my stories and pages. I live with my wife and dog in a duplex we own with her sister, in the heart of a midwestern cosmopolis, just a few short blocks from the Mississippi river.
